I'm now barktanning a sheep skin anD was wondering something about the tanning solution: I'll use Norway spruce bark (yes, I'm in Norway) from garden mulch bags, just like you. Once the bark is boiled for 2h and is pourred in the big 20L bucket, is the solution ready to tan or does it involve a maturation process to release the tannins? In that case, I just put the bark chips straight out of the bag in boiling water, boil for two hours, pour in the big tub with the hide in and we're just good? Would be awesome if you could clarify this part to me!
